We have been very busy in the Oak Room getting ready for the international fair. Our classroom will be hosting North America and South America, so grab a passport at the door and visit the displays, taste some regional foods and check out some interesting cultural artifacts! Every classroom in the school will be featuring the various continents of the world. The fair will take place on Sunday, April 27th, from 1-4 pm. All of the CGM children have been working hard on their silent auction projects, so don’t forget to put in a bid for some of these one-of-a-kind pieces.
We have really been enjoying the beautiful weather we are having with a lot of time working and playing outside. With the warmer temperatures and more time in the sun, we will apply (afternoon) sunblock to children who bring it from home. We ask that sunblock brought to school is is spray form for sanitary reasons.
Summer birthdays: We will celebrate summer birthdays with ice cream sundaes during the last week of school. If they choose to, any children who have a birthday during the summer break may bring in a favorite topping for ice cream that we will be providing.
Have a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you on Sunday!
Thank you to all of our volunteers for their assistance with the international fair and silent auction. We appreciate your time and support!

Children were excited to see each other after the Spring Break and were waiting to start to work. Some new spring works such as learning about the birds, insects, plants and lifecycles have been quite popular. They have also been working with the 45 layout, moveable alphabet, maps, making books – geometric cabinet and metal insets. There is a huge interest in the changes outside. They have begun noticing birds, flowers and bugs. This is a good time for nature walks as a family too.
Children are enjoying the “flower arranging work” in our room. We request that you send in a bunch of cut fresh flowers on your child’s snack day, starting Monday the 28th.Children are also encouraged to bring in flowers from their garden/yard.
The children are also looking forward to the international Fair this Sunday from 2-4 pm. They are working hard to get some beautiful items ready for the Silent Auction and have fun visiting the Different Continent Tables. Please bring friends and family to the fair.
Registration for fall to the public is in progress now! Please let Brenda know as early as you can what days your child will be attending in the fall. This helps us to know what to start offering to the new families. Few openings are available, please let your friends and family know, if interested. We will be offering half day summer as well as full day. Summer program will be from June 2nd to July 18th. This summer, two of my good friends will be working with us. Genie and Marlene have several years of experience working in Montessori rooms. Most of our children know Ms. Genie from Yoga and she is our primary guide at IMCS. Senora Marlene Calderin hails originally from Venezuela and will be doing Spanish with the children. I am looking forward to a lot of fun time for summer.
Happy Spring!

I just want to be sure that everyone knows about a couple of upcoming events this week. I’ve posted them to the calendar.
Chicago’s Pizza Night on Monday 5-8 pm in Bargersville and a What is Montessori? night on Tuesday at 6pm. For more information see Brenda or check the calendar on Compass or see Facebook. Hope to see you all at one or both events this week!
Your children may have told you that we are undergoing some changes in the classroom, new workplan systems, new daily schedule and a few minor things. Please feel free to email me with questions, comments or concerns (or stop in). We are hoping our new systems will create an environment of challenges with feelings of success. This week we worked on getting back together, learning our changes, writing poems and discussed the ocean and waves. See everyone on Monday! Those Women’s History presentations have been lovely!

The children in the Maple room have been very busy in the past few weeks. We are learning about the Asian continent these days. We are learning about land, animals, people , food and music of Asia. Children have enjoyed making parts of a peacock booklets .They made a colorful peacock collectively, for artwork. If you have any souvenirs from your travel to Asia, please feel free to send in with your child, to share with the classmates.
We are happy to have Rowan in our class. He is four years old and is joining us from Columbus Montessori.
If a bag of wet clothes is found in your child’s cubby, it is a good time to please check to make sure your child has at least one set of clean dry clothes at school. Children may decide to change after a spill from a water activity. Most water works are quite popular with our youngest ones and help them with fine motor and concentration/focusing skills.

February is Dental Health Month. We used this opportunity to discover interesting facts about our teeth and how they grow, what can damage them and, most importantly, how to care for them. A special thank you to Dr. Goedecker, who donated tooth brushes and toothpaste for all of the kids. They were all so pleased to learn that Brady’s dad is a dentist!
We have been enjoying learning more about the weather and performed some experiments about thunder, lightening and rainbows this week. The children seem particularly interested in this topic right now. Several of our friends like to check the temperature throughout the day.

Welcome to our new friend Prajeeth! We are enjoying getting to know him!
With all of the recent precipitation we are ending up with a lot of wet socks and pants after outside time. Please take a moment to check your child’s spare clothing to make sure they have a spare pair of socks and pants. Thanks!
Please note that we will be having an open house at CGM from 2-4 pm on Saturday, March 1st. There will also be an open house on the same day at IMCS in Whiteland from 1-5 pm. Please tell your friends and co-workers about our wonderful schools and encourage them to attend!
Child quote of the week:
Arhan: “This beautiful orchestra music makes my eyes water.”
Have a great weekend, Miss Holly.

What a fun week in the Oak room. We celebrated Valentine’s Day with activities, the history of the holiday, a fun party and a surprise “fancy” candle lit lunch. Thanks to all of our parents who were such a big help, as always. We all had such a good time!
We are continuing our study of the weather and will be trying some science experiments this coming week to learn about rain, thunder and rainbows.
We have begun our geography unit on Australia. This week we talked about instruments, food and lifestyles in this area of the world.
We are proud to announce a near perfect attendance for the Spring conferences last week! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to meet with us. We enjoyed sharing the daily experiences we have with your children and bragging a little about their progress! Our class is full of such bright and caring kids!
Please note that we will be having an open house for both of our buildings in the first weekend of March. Please tell friends and co-workers about our wonderful schools and encourage them to attend!
Child quote of the week:
Miss Holly (during circle): “How do you think the celebrating of Valentine’s Day started?”
Dean: “Not good.”
Have a great weekend, Miss Holly.

We are happy to report that the Oak room is healthy again. We recently had fevers and colds run their course, but we all seem to be on the mend! We have used this opportunity to remind the children of the importance of hand washing. We are encouraging the kids to wash (with soap) for the duration of the “abc song” or “Happy Birthday.”
What a winter we are having! This frigid and snowy season has given us the ideal opportunity to start talking about weather. We are implementing our daily weather tracking chart and learning about predictions, clouds and the weather changes that occur with each season.
We have enjoyed learning all about Antarctica in the Oak room, but are ready to travel to another continent. Our next area of study in geography and culture will be about the continent of Australia. If any of our families have artifacts from this region of the world and would like to share, we would love to see them!
Happy Birthday to our friend Andrew! He is 4!

There are still available openings for conferences next week if you haven’t already signed up! Please remember that we do have before and after care available for our students during our conference times. We are looking forward to meeting with our Oak room families to discuss their students’ progress.
Valentine’s Day is next week! We are looking forward to our class party on Thursday, Feb. 13th. Children who choose to bring in valentine cards for their friends will need to bring in enough for 21 students please. As usual, our party will take place at 2:30 that afternoon and parents are always welcome!
Child quote of the week:
Grant: “Meanie, meanie, minie, mo. If I pick you, you get to wear my star wars pajamas.” (Sadly, Miss Darci and I were not chosen.)
Have a great weekend, Miss Holly.

Wow is it cold. I hope all of our families are staying warm and safe during these frigid winter conditions. However, the weather was quite appropriate for learning all about Antarctica and its inhabitants.
For our science lessons we have been learning about different classes of vertebrates, and where humans fall into this list. We discovered that we are in the mammal class and have been exploring the “bones” of the human body. We will continue with the human body unit and soon learn all about our organs and other body systems.
Thanks to our friends and families who attended the open house at the new school in Whiteland. We are all very excited about this new addition and appreciate your support!
Conferences will be here before we know it! You will be able to sign up soon at Brenda’s front desk. We always enjoy discussing the progress of your children and look forward to the opportunity to touch base with our CGM families. Sign up early to get the spot that best fits into your schedule!
Ever wonder why your child is spending so much time pouring, stringing beads and sweeping the floor at school? Well, our Practical Life walk thru on Monday, January 27th is your opportunity to find out just how important this area of the classroom and curriculum are to future success in language, math and overall self confidence. I hope you will join us for this enlightening exploration and discussion!
Child quote of the week:
Collin: “I’m going to sit and do my job but I am never ever never doing it.”
Have a great weekend, Miss Holly.

We are “snow” excited to be back in the Oak room to start a brand new year! The children came back ready to visit with friends and get to work.
Speaking of snow, we are currently studying the differences between the four seasons, and learning all about the continent of Antarctica. Next week be prepared to hear all about the lives and trials of the Arctic penguins. We will be starting a special unit all about our waddling friends!
It was great to see many of our families at the open house for the new Indiana Montessori Community School. We are very excited about this addition to our Montessori family and greatly anticipate it’s official opening! The school is located on Route 31 just south of Whiteland Road. The next open house will be held on March 1st.
