It has been fun and exciting, learning about Diwali and Thanksgiving. This Tuesday we will be having a feast. Children will make stone soup and corn bread for the feast. Each one of us is bringing one ingredient for the soup. We will start the soup on Monday. Please send in the vegetable/ingredient your child has picked to bring on Monday.
Jama, Pavitra and I are thankful for being blessed with the opportunity to be part of your child’s learning journey at Center Grove Montessori.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Reminder: As it turns colder, please update your childs change of clothes that are kept at school.

With the onset of the cold and flu season, we have been practicing a lot of personal care skills such as hand washing, face cleaning and nose blowing. We always encourage the children to take care of their bodies by eating well, resting and keeping themselves clean. They are all doing very well with these lessons, but practice makes perfect, so keep up the reinforcement at home please!
Thanks to our parents for the very entertaining and educational Diwali celebration! We really appreciate the thought and care that went into the classrooms. The children had a wonderful time and were so excited to try so many new things!
Hopefully all of our families are diligently working on those totem pole cans. We are looking forward to seeing everyone’s creation and putting together our class pole. Our plans for Thanksgiving this year will cover the traditional history of the interactions between the pilgrims and the native americans through stories and playacting. On our last day before our short break, we will celebrate together by baking and making our own butter!
Happy Birthday Collin and Madison!
Please Note:
It is getting chilly outside. Please remember that we do take the children outside if the temperature is above 32 degrees, so they need to have appropriate outdoor clothing. With the cold mornings and warmer afternoons, we find dressing in layers to work best in keeping the kids comfortable.

Last week we had some amazing homework turned in, had a lesson on fabric printing, bluegrass/country/folk music, a lesson on the countries in North America, had a presentation on the Day of the Dead and worked on our Timeline of life Research Teams (these teams were suppose to research and present on their period and did so through food, slideshows, shelf materials, posters and games).
The best thing about my job is that I learn something new everyday! This weekend I learned that our school can benefit from parents shopping on Amazon. You just have to use the fundraising link and it takes you to Amazon and then when you buy we get credit…(there is some amazing cubing materials I’d love to have for the children, but these are so expensive, I hope to get them soon!). Also I learned that the magazine “Tomorrows Child” is available to us digitally, for free, through Compass, so we will not be ordering so many magazines (saving trees & money) and will just let you access it online through the parent resources tab.
Thank you to the parent volunteers who are coming into the room once a month and helping! I feel so blessed to have these people in the room and to be able to do so much more because of them! We are looking for parent volunteers to assist in our International Fair in the spring..look for more details soon! Thank you for allowing us to be with such awesome and interesting people everyday!

What a busy week! The children in the Oak Room have been working hard on jobs, Dia de los Muertos activities and having fun with friends. We spent a lot of our time talking about Mexico and the tradition of the Day of the Dead celebrations. We were pleased to learn that the children were very interested in why this holiday is celebrated and what the children of Mexico do to honor the special people in their lives who are no longer with them.
Next week we will be joining with the Maple Room to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights celebrated in India. This is a great favorite with the children so we are looking forward to those activities and tasty foods!
We will soon begin our preparations for Thanksgiving and learning about the history of this American holiday. Please look for a coffee can and instructions that will be sent home as a family craft activity. This will be your child’s contribution to our totem poles!
Please Note:
Thank you for your cooperation with the new nap routine. The nap packs are a great success and the children seem to enjoy the responsibility of taking care of their pack and getting ready for nap all by themselves.
It is getting chilly outside. Please remember that we do take the children outside if the temperature is above 32 degrees, so they need to have appropriate outdoor clothing. With the cold mornings and warmer afternoons, we find dressing in layers to work best in keeping the kids comfortable.
Good friends working together!

We all seemed to have been ready to come back and work after the Fall Break!
Halloween was enjoyed by everyone and most of the children were busy even with the costumes on.
We are beginning to explore the continent, South America. We will be learning about some flags of different Latin American countries, animals, food and people in the coming weeks.
We will also celebrate Diwali and Thanksgiving this month.
Thank you to all the parents that are sending in nutritious snack for our room. We have just found out that one child is allergic to dairy. So NO CHEESE, PLEASE!!
Please know that the children really love the fresh fruits and vegetables that are sent for snack. These also minimize the risk of allergies and are fun. There is no need to wash and cut. The children enjoy to get snack ready for everyone at school. So just as a reminder, no nuts and no dairy for snack.

We were happy to be back and ready to work this week after our Fall Break! The children were all eager to share what they did and where they travelled to during our time apart. We did a lot of celebrating this week with birthdays and Halloween. What a fun time with good friends!
This week we began our study of North America. There are several jobs out exposing the children to the different countries and cultures in our diverse continent. This coming week we will be celebrating Dia de los Muertos and learning about Mexico and the people that live there.
Happy Birthday to Brady and Laasya…they’re 5!

I hope everyone enjoyed their fall break! I don’t know about you, but to me it seems Fall decided that this would be the perfect time to appear and appear in full force! Please keep this in mind when your children get dressed. They will need to dress for the weather that will occur at 1:30pm each day. Also for running club, I recommend layers that can be taken off if necessary. Should they be dressed too hot or too cold I will have to ask them to stay back from running club. (ATTENTION- running club will break for this week in order to enjoy Halloween). Speaking of Halloween – we will be deciding as a class what to do this Monday during our class meeting time. Watch Compass for an update & more info. This weeks lunch team is a celebrity cook…..Ms. Kristen! She will be making Cuban Rice & Beans. Please send in $2 for this weeks lunch.
Don’t forget about homework Monday this week (grades 3-6)!! The children really enjoy getting to show their hard work to their friends. Watch for Novembers homework to come home this week!
Happy Fall!

Children in the Maple room have been very busy lately. Our classroom walls are getting filled with handmade items from our children. Many world maps have been completed. Many, many pink cube and brown stair mobiles are hanging from the ceiling and lots of painted things are adorning our walls!!!
We have been learning about the continent North America. We explored the map with countries, animals, famous places and souvenirs from North America. They have enjoyed making tortillas with masa.
Tasting a pomegranate and a star fruit together was quite interesting. Some of us did not like them, but were brave to taste them.
Please Note:
Starting when school resumes after the break, our rest time procedure will be a bit different. Miss Dana and Miss Darci will be putting together “nap packs” for each of our resting children. Each child will have a fleece pillow and blanket that will fit into a small bag that will remain at school. This is all part of our efforts to foster independence and responsibility by giving the children the opportunity to practice practical life skills such as laundry, folding and making up a “bed.” Children may bring a special item from home but it should be no larger than 10″ x 12″ and must fit into their “nap pack.” Please see picture below for a sample.
Halloween at CGM
If your child wishes, s/he may wear a costume to school on Thursday Oct 31st.When choosing a costume, please consider that some costumes may be frightening to other children. Masks and weapons are not welcome! Please make sure children have a change of clothes, as they may want to get out of the costume quickly. We will parade in the costumes and make a music band! If you would like to spend some time with a group of enthusiastic music lovers, please let Brenda know of your volunteering intentions. We can use some extra help for that day.
We are so fortunate to have a supportive group of parents. Thank you for taking the time to come and talk to us about your children at the parent teacher conferences. And to volunteer and contribute to make CGM the very special place for our children!
