Interested in clay? Look into Rocky Ripple Clayworks.
The kids were able to participate in a class last year and truly enjoyed it.
Here is an excerpt from his website:
“I’m a potter in Indianapolis. I have a small business teaching clay classes at area schools, churches, parks and YMCAs. I also enjoy creating my own work and hope to continue to be a part of art shows around Indiana. Please feel free to contact me if you’d like to learn more about the classes I offer. Working with clay has been a wonderful experience in my life that I love sharing with others.”

This Week in the Oak Room

Wow! Our first week of full day classes went beautifully. All of our students adjusted so well to the new schedule and transitions. This is such a big change at their age, I am so proud at how well they have all embraced their Montessori environment.
It was all about planets this week in the Oak room. We learned a new solar system song and discovered where our planet lives among its “neighbors.” What a great geography lesson!
Shadows are everywhere! Our science area is featuring study of shadows and what needs to happen for them to appear, change shape and size. Last week we traced our shadows in the parking lot. Some students had some very interesting poses.
Thanks to all for making the drop off and pick up so efficient. It helps so much with the parking as well as with the child’s transition from your arms to their classroom.
A note: We would like all of our students to have a water bottle available to store outside for these hot days. If you have an extra that can stay at school, that would be helpful. Thank you.
Our student quote of the week:
“You do the Humpty Dumpty and you turn yourself around…that’s what it’s all about.”- Shriya’s lyrics for the song “Hokey Pokey.”
Have an enjoyable holiday weekend!
Miss Holly.

Claude Monet

Each month the students will learn about a new artist. We will cover a brief history, see examples of the artist work and try our hand at emulating their style. This month is Claude Monet.
An early impressionist, Monet’s paintings paved the way for artists to free themselves from the restraints of the studio and to experience “pleine air”, or “outside” painting. Monet’s most famous paintings were of waterlilies in his garden at Giverny.
The students tried their hand at Monet’s style of painting by using Q-tips. They applied the paint in “dabs” just like Monet. I hope they continue trying out the technique and have fun.

We had a great orientation week!
Shivani and I had the privilege to work with your children and get to know a little about them. Together we explored the environment, learned how to get work from the shelves, snack and water, the bathroom routine, the hand washing routine and the play yard fun.
We sang songs with everyone’s name, so we can learn names of our peers quickly. In the coming weeks we will be learning about real and artificial things, living and non-living things, parts of a plant and then leaves.
Thank you for giving us an opportunity to learn with your children!
