A very busy classroom.
Well, February was full of fun! We really enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day! We also welcomed our newest student, Amy, into our classroom.
February was full of new experiences. We have been studying Asia and all of its interesting people, places and food. We revisited the classes of vertebrates with a focus on reptiles and continued learning about biomes.
March brings our introduction to the continent of Africa and all of its interesting people, places and animals. We will also take a quick trip to Ireland and talk about their St. Patrick’s Day celebration and have a little leprechaun fun of our own!
Parent-teacher conferences will be Monday, March 14 – Friday, March 18. Please feel free to sign up for a time to meet with us. The sign-up sheets will be available soon at the front desk. This is an excellent opportunity to talk about your questions or concerns about your child’s day, as well as an opportunity for us to brag a bit about all of their progress this year.
We will be on Spring Break from Monday, March 21 – Friday, April 1. School will resume on Monday, April 4.
Please Note:
A reminder: drop off time for our classroom is from 8:30-8:45 and pick up between 11:15-11:30. We appreciate your attention to this procedure to ensure a smooth transition for all of our children.

2016, can you believe it? We have started a new year. My mom always said it would go by fast, I now am starting to believe her. I will have a freshman in High school coming this August, and I just cannot believe that.
We are all starting to think about our children’s educational future this month, it’s that time of year. Wanted to touch on this subject, as it is on our all our minds. Speaking of my freshman, I did what some of you do. Pulled him out, before his Montessori kindergarten year, despite that I was advised he should stay another year. I did it for a few reasons, the school he attended did not have first grade. It was over after kindergarten, so why wait? Seemed like a better time to transition. I was anxious for a little bit of kid-free time, and wanted to enroll his little brother ASAP, and do the grocery shopping ALONE. I later regretted this decision.

Savya hard at work on place value.
What a wonderful January! We learned all about Antarctica and the animals that live there. The children all returned from break ready to learn, so our classroom has been a very busy place. No doubt you also heard all about our fun in the snow!
February will be filled with great learning opportunities and a lot of fun with friends. We will be exploring Asia; tasting interesting food, celebrating Chinese New Year, and discovering interesting facts about life on this continent.
We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 10th. On this day, we gather as a group to pass out Valentine cards to friends. If you child would like to participate we currently have 17 students in our classroom. Please have your child sign only their name on the cards as this makes distribution go more smoothly.
We would like to welcome Lincoln Davis back to our classroom. We have had fun getting re-acquainted with him!
Please join us for our parent education night, “What is my child doing all day?,” on Tuesday, February 2nd at 6:30 pm. What’s Happening in the Oak Room
Welcome back! Hopefully all of our families had a restful and fun-filled holiday break. We are ready to start our second half of the school year with more learning and laughter with our CGM community!
We are excited to get started with our planning of the Spring International Fair and Art Auction. Our room will be displaying information about and artifacts from Australia and Africa. If there is anyone interested in assisting with this fun and educational event, please let us know!
Since we are in the colder months of the year, we will take this time to feature Antarctica and the Polar Regions in our geography area. The children are particularly fond of this continent, being that it’s only full-time inhabitants are of the polar bear and penguin variety!
We have two new students starting in our classroom this month. Welcome to our new friend Elliott and our returning friend Lincoln! We look forward to getting to know you!

Maple Room Jan. Newsletter
Hope you all had a fabulous time with your families over the holidays! Wishing you all a very happy 2016! Can’t believe we are done with our first semester already!
We welcome Haruhiko and Elizabeth in our classroom, Haruhiko goes by Haru, and he is 5 yrs. Old! Elizabeth is 2 yrs. old.
December went in learning about how people celebrate holidays around the world. Our room was glowing with diversity. We learned all this through reading books, coloring pictures, making crafts, wearing ethnic clothes and by cooking treats from that part of the world.
Now time to enjoy the winter season. Children will learn about polar animals, Antarctica, snow and how animals survive cold weather, so in all it’s about winter!! No school on Jan. 18th in honor of Dr. King’s b’day. We’ll be learning about him too.
Please make sure children have winter gear, we will be going out if the temperature is above 32 degrees.
Imp. Reminders
Jan 4th – School resumes and Keaton’s b’day
Jan 18th – No School (MLK)
Jan 26th – Sophie’s b’day

It is HERE! The holidays! From Halloween to Christmas, we feel it. The start of the planning and stress of the holidays. From the turkey baking to the Christmas cookies…it’s HERE! Some, including myself, dread the holidays. I LONG for my childhood years. When my dad was alive, and all I had to worry about is what everyone was going to get ME! What I was going to open, WHEN will I get to open presents, and how much food and treats could I stuff in my stomach without getting sick!….yes, I really do miss that.
