Only three more weeks to summer holidays!!
Thank you to all the parents who came to support their children’s work during our Art show and silent auction.
In the next few weeks we look forward to working and playing outdoors a lot more. Please put sunscreen on your child. You may send in a spray sunscreen, with your child’s name on it, that we can help apply during the middle of the day. We also hope that our bean plants grow before the break!
We have been cooking up a storm in the Maple room the past week. The kids love to cook and you will find yourself with great helpers in the kitchen this summer.
We will be celebrating summer birthdays with ice cream on the 20th of May and your child may bring in topping of his/her choice if they have a summer birthday. A note will be in the cubby notifying you of the same.
We are so proud of our Maple room friends. It has been a true privilege to watch them grow and be part of their life’s journey. We look forward to seeing many of them in the fall and wish our other friends all the very best in their new adventure.
Lastly our fishes need a home for the summer. If you are interested in fish sitting for us please let Jama or me know. We will provide you with all the supplies including food. Children really enjoy the responsibility of caring for their classroom pet.
Have a great summer!!

Maple Room
January and February have been really busy months full of birthdays, big work and new friends. Our leaders in our room all had birthdays Miles, Lily and Norah turned 6. Sophie turned 4. We also welcome our new friend Mishika and Anika this month.
Our map cabinet work has been extremely popular as has our 100 board treasure hunt (on red paper with hearts). Children have been doing a lot of group work too. In the month of February our friends in the Maple room are learning about friendship, kind words, and love. We like to focus during this month on feelings and emotions as a whole. We are learning a few new songs to go with it 🙂 and I often hear my friends hum during the day. Our continent study focuses on Europe and our friends have been fascinated in particular by the boot shaped country Italy – we enjoyed making our own pizza!
Children have been going out whenever possible, so do send in their warm coats, hats, gloves etc. During the days that we are not able to go outdoors the children have been enjoying movement through freeze dance – we have some amazing dancers in our class.
Group sensorial work
Thank you to all who attended the importance of the Kindergarten year – it was a wonderful informative discussion.
In the month of March please join us on Saturday, the 7th of March 2015, between 2-4pm for our open house.

It has been another brilliant month at the Maple room. My friends were very excited to bring mom and dad to the classroom for date nights. It was so much fun to be able to show our parents our favorite lessons and do some together.
This month we continued our lessons on North America and made many special projects including colored corn, turkeys and dream catchers. We spent a lot of time this month thinking about what it means to be thankful and all the things we are thankful for. We had many interesting things to say as we passed our sharing stone around J.
We also discovered our love for cooking this month as we made our own thanksgiving meal of apple pie and corn bread. The children enjoyed using the apple peeler, cutting them up and using a mold the press in the filling. You all have wonderful helpers for this thanksgiving so involve them and enjoy!!
As for the coming month we only have three weeks left before Christmas break. We will be putting on our holiday cheer as we continue to engage in our “big work”. We will learn about all the upcoming holidays. In the Maple room we celebrate Christmas by bringing something from the class list for the whole class. We have a class wish list and all our friends are welcome to bring an item from it. We will then open them on the last day before break as a group.
I would like to say a special thank you to all our wonderful parent volunteers this month.
Hope you have a good, warm and safe holiday season.
Our Christmas class list:
1. dry erase pens (washable)
2. sharpies
3. color pencils (triangle ones)
4. regular color pencils
5. sparkle color pencils
6. feathers
7. sequence
8. pompom (multi colors)
9. markers (washable)
10. glue sticks
11. tape
12. cotton balls
13. yarn
14. matches
15. construction paper
16. tracing paper
17. felt

Some notes:
1. If it is 32 degrees and above outside, we will go to play outdoors. Therefore please send your child with their winter coats/hats/gloves etc.
2. If you have not already done so please change out the clothes in their cubbies so they have a warm set of clothes to change into if the need arises.
3. Please check your child’s cubby (where they hang their coats) for their work to take home.

Welcome back! Hope all of you had a relaxing fall break and got a chance to enjoy the lovely weather. Our friends at the Maple room have come back with great enthusiasm to work, socialize and care for our community. We continue to learn about fall and have had the chance to express our selves through various artworks and explore different kinds of corn this week. We have also learnt some new songs!
We have had three birthdays this week!! 🙂 Aikya turned 5, Ryo turned 4 and Bella turned 4 years old!
We thank our parents for continuing to send in healthy snacks for our class. We are also doing our flower-arranging lesson. So if it is your snack day, we would be grateful if you can send in a bunch of flowers too. They don’t have to be a big bunch. They can even be from your garden (children love to bring things they have grown at home).
If you have not done so, please change out the clothes in your child’s cubby, as the days are getting colder.
In the coming month we will be celebrating Diwali (the festival of light) and continue to study the continent N. America.
It was wonderful to meet all our parents at the conferences before break. Again please feel free to contact us via email/ make an appointment with Brenda. We are here for you to work together.
It was wonderful to see everyone in costumes on Friday, despite inclement weather. Stay warm and happy trick or treating everyone!
Parent’s night is this Thursday and the next! Mom’s night will be on Thurs., Nov. 6th, from 6:30-7:30 pm. Dad’s night will be the following Thurs. the 13th at the same time. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to show off their favorite work and show you around their classroom. We hope to see you there!

Hello,
It has truly been spectacular September!! Time seems to have flow by once again. Our month started by celebrating Dr. Maria Montessori’s birthday. Dr. Montessori called her school the Children’s House and our room has begun to feel like home! Children have been taking more responsibility for their community and forming relationships with peers. There has been lots of group work going on this month. We have also been able to take advantage of the good weather and work outside on some days! We began our introduction to peace education with Dr. Montessori birthday. Do ask your child about Dr. Montessori, the different names of the areas in our classroom and how to say ‘peace’ in different languages. All of us enjoyed making sand paper letters in her honor.
Our friends in the Maple room have been busy this month with many “big” lessons: making poster and mobiles. We learnt about different apples – the colors, names and even got to taste some to see how different they were. Our children have been measuring their friends using our apple lesson. There has been much excitement about “how many apples tall” they are. We have been learning apple songs at circle and learning to manipulate our voices – example: loud, whisper, squeaky etc. We celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday by plating our own apple seeds that we got to bring home. Maple room as a group has been enjoying our puzzle map lessons. We have been doing many exciting work with them including tracing, coloring and poking out continents/state and countries. We began studying about the continent North America: we all live here! Feel free to send in pictures/post cards any thing unique from your travels to various parts of this continent.
In the Maple room, show and tell is done if a child brings something in to show. They let Ms. Jama or myself know before circle time and we make sure they are able to share in one of the two circles. If more than one child brings a show and tell we try to accommodate both or sometimes we save one for the next day. We typically do not do one everyday. Good things to bring in would be: things the child has made, things they have found on a walk: twigs, rocks, leaves, etc. Additionally we have a nature basket and children can feel free to add to that at any time during the year.
In the coming months we look forward to continue build on all the acquired knowledge. We will continue learning about fall with our pumpkin unit.
Some Notes:
- Do stop to notice the beautiful tree across from our parking lot. Kids love it. Take walks with them and notice more!
- If it is your snack day can you please bring us some flowers for our flower-arranging job. It does not have to be a lot, just a small bunch, even something from your garden would be wonderful and appreciated by all our friends.
- Please check your child’s clothes in the cubbies and change them them if needed. Our days are getting colder.
- Children are welcome to wear costumes on the 31st of Oct. No masks or weapons please.
Have a great fall break!!

Welcome Maple Room Parents!
We have had a wonderful August!
Our friends are settling in and becoming more confident and comfortable in their class room.
We have had some friends discovering how to take care of their environment and exploring new jobs. Our older friends have become dependable mentors for our young and new students.
We have talked about grace and courtesy towards others. Waiting patiently for jobs to return to the shelves or for a friend to be available to help. We have talked briefly about the coming changes in autumn. We have learned some fun songs about falling leaves.
We also celebrated two birthdays. Happy Birthday to Javier who turned 4 and Happy Birthday to Pratyush who turned 5!
We would also like to remind you that some of our friends still bring sweet treats and chips for lunch. Children really do enjoy our healthy snack put out during class hours. When they see their peers eat healthy they too want to do so. Please involve your child in the lunches they bring. We have seen over the past month a lot of them save their “desserts” for home.
The web and Pintrest have lots of fun and healthy examples.
This first week of September we will be celebrating Dr. Montessori’s birthday! Her birthday was August 31. We will be baking and creating sand paper letters.
Picture day is next Wednesday, September 10. Bring your best smiles!
There will be a lesson walk through in cosmic education September 22.
Just a friendly reminder to be sure that your child has a change of clothes.
Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your amazing individuals!

What a wonderful year!
It has been a great privilege to spend some time with your children this past school year!
I felt that I was with a wonderful, happy, curious, industrious, confident and a very affectionate group. When I reflect on this past year, two things stand out the most that we did together.
First— We laughed a lot.
Not a day went by without a giggle, chuckle or loud laughter in the room. Sometimes I could not control my eyes getting wet when trying to subdue laughter, in my effort to tone it down in front of children.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to be with your Happy Children.
“There’s nothing more contagious than the laughter of young children; it doesn’t even have to matter what they’re laughing about.”
― Criss Jami
Second— We loved a lot.
There was a tiny doubt about the existence of unconditional love in my heart; it was washed away this year. I felt and saw children loving and caring for each other more than in the past years. We witnessed them expressing these feelings even when they were apart from each other for 60-90 minutes. (for rest time).
After working all morning, when a child brings his work to me and says, with a purest smile “this is for you”, it is an indescribable moment of love. S/he chooses not to take the hard work home. Sorry, parents, but I have kept some of those and I have quietly kept some of those in your child’s cubby for you. When All those half dangling worms in the palms of your children, ants, beetles, spiders and insects that I cannot name, the beautiful yellow heads of dandelions, dried and rotten pieces of leaves and twigs and many more treasures that they find in the yard , ARE brought to me , I have felt curiosity and LOVE from your children.
Thank you again for allowing me to have this enriching experience of pure love from your Loving Children.
“Unconditional love is an illogical notion, but such a great and powerful one.”
― A.J. Jacobs

This year has been so wonder-full!
I’ve had the pleasure of working along side some awesome future leaders. It is always an amazing experience to see these little people blossom into independent and capable humans.
Thank you for allowing me to share your most precious children. I learn from them as much as they learn from being at Center Grove Montessori.
To those friends who are returning, have a fun summer and see you soon! To my friends who are going on to other adventures, I will miss you and never forget you!
-Miss Jama
Wow I cannot believe the year has come to an end. I am thankful and happy to have had the chance to work and learn with a wonderful group of students. Children were excited to see each other after the Spring Break and were waiting to start to work. Some new spring works such as learning about the birds, insects, plants and lifecycles have been quite popular. They have also been working with the 45 layout, moveable alphabet, maps, making books – geometric cabinet and metal insets. There is a huge interest in the changes outside. They have begun noticing birds, flowers and bugs. This is a good time for nature walks as a family too.
Children are enjoying the “flower arranging work” in our room. We request that you send in a bunch of cut fresh flowers on your child’s snack day, starting Monday the 28th.Children are also encouraged to bring in flowers from their garden/yard.
The children are also looking forward to the international Fair this Sunday from 2-4 pm. They are working hard to get some beautiful items ready for the Silent Auction and have fun visiting the Different Continent Tables. Please bring friends and family to the fair.
Registration for fall to the public is in progress now! Please let Brenda know as early as you can what days your child will be attending in the fall. This helps us to know what to start offering to the new families. Few openings are available, please let your friends and family know, if interested. We will be offering half day summer as well as full day. Summer program will be from June 2nd to July 18th. This summer, two of my good friends will be working with us. Genie and Marlene have several years of experience working in Montessori rooms. Most of our children know Ms. Genie from Yoga and she is our primary guide at IMCS. Senora Marlene Calderin hails originally from Venezuela and will be doing Spanish with the children. I am looking forward to a lot of fun time for summer.
Happy Spring!

The children in the Maple room have been very busy in the past few weeks. We are learning about the Asian continent these days. We are learning about land, animals, people , food and music of Asia. Children have enjoyed making parts of a peacock booklets .They made a colorful peacock collectively, for artwork. If you have any souvenirs from your travel to Asia, please feel free to send in with your child, to share with the classmates.
We are happy to have Rowan in our class. He is four years old and is joining us from Columbus Montessori.
If a bag of wet clothes is found in your child’s cubby, it is a good time to please check to make sure your child has at least one set of clean dry clothes at school. Children may decide to change after a spill from a water activity. Most water works are quite popular with our youngest ones and help them with fine motor and concentration/focusing skills.
Some upcoming important events/dates-
Registration for fall opens to the public as of March 1st. Please let Brenda know as early as you can what days your child will be attending in the fall.
