What’s Happening in the Oak Room
April Showers….
We are ready for Spring! Hopefully everyone had a restful break and will return to school healthy and ready to experience the change of seasons!
April is a busy month in the Oak Room. We will be exploring all of the changes occurring outdoors, learning about the water cycle and watching the busy birds that return to our trees every year.
It is conference time at Center Grove Montessori! Please note that there will be sign up sheets available at the front desk so that you may choose a time most convenient to you. Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet with us so we can discuss your child’s progress and accomplishments. Conferences will be held before and after school during the week of April 13-17.
Also in April we will be having our Art show and auction on Saturday, the 25th, from 1-4 pm. We will have samples of the children’s artwork displayed throughout the classrooms. There will be various items and artwork available for bidding during the silent auction.
Don’t forget to donate! We will be collecting new and gently used items for the MCR Community Sale on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout April. You can just drop off your donation at the school and we will take care of the rest!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! We had a great time celebrating Chinese New Year!
The Oak room children continue to amaze as we wrap up another month of hard work and fun with friends! The children have all been very busy and industrious. We are seeing a lot of interesting projects and a lot of writing!
While we are still having fun learning all about Asia, we will also be introducing interesting items from and information about Europe! There are many similarities to our own culture here in America, so there will be ample opportunities to compare and contrast!
It’s been so cold outside and the children are ready for some fresh air! We are hoping for warmer temperatures this week, but our playground will still be quite snowy and muddy. If your child could please bring snow boots and gloves, that would be helpful. We don’t want anyone to miss out on playing outdoors!
Please think of joining the recently formed Montessori Community Resource Group in supporting our local Montessori schools by donating new and gently used items for their Community Sale in April. While you are spring cleaning over the break, please set aside items you no longer use or need for donation.
We welcome anyone interested to get involved with this parent/teacher/school director organization by attending our next meeting on March 11th at 3:30 pm. Meetings are held at our sister school, Indiana Montessori Community School, in Whiteland.

Maple Room
January and February have been really busy months full of birthdays, big work and new friends. Our leaders in our room all had birthdays Miles, Lily and Norah turned 6. Sophie turned 4. We also welcome our new friend Mishika and Anika this month.
Our map cabinet work has been extremely popular as has our 100 board treasure hunt (on red paper with hearts). Children have been doing a lot of group work too. In the month of February our friends in the Maple room are learning about friendship, kind words, and love. We like to focus during this month on feelings and emotions as a whole. We are learning a few new songs to go with it 🙂 and I often hear my friends hum during the day. Our continent study focuses on Europe and our friends have been fascinated in particular by the boot shaped country Italy – we enjoyed making our own pizza!
Children have been going out whenever possible, so do send in their warm coats, hats, gloves etc. During the days that we are not able to go outdoors the children have been enjoying movement through freeze dance – we have some amazing dancers in our class.
Group sensorial work
Thank you to all who attended the importance of the Kindergarten year – it was a wonderful informative discussion.
In the month of March please join us on Saturday, the 7th of March 2015, between 2-4pm for our open house.

What’s Happening in the Oak Room?
January was such a busy month full of work, play and new experiences. We are looking forward to a productive and fun February!
During this upcoming month we will be discovering all that the great continent of Asia has to offer! The children will be tasting food, playing games and celebrating customs from this region of the world. Chinese New Year is February 19th. It is the year of the goat!
We are seeing a lot of muddy pants and socks in our classroom. Some of our students are missing a change of clothing. We are requesting that all of our parents please check your child’s cubbie to make sure that they have a clean outfit available.
Valentine’s Day will be here soon. We are planning a small celebration for this holiday on Wednesday, February 11th. If your child would like to bring in Valentines, we have 19 students in the Oak Room. For ease of distribution, please just have your child sign their own name on the cards. We are in need of shoe boxes for the children to decorate, so if any of our families have some to donate, thank you and please send them in by Monday, February 9th.
Thinking about whether to keep your child in their Montessori classroom for their Kindergarten year? We will be having a parent information night on February 10th at 6:30 pm to discuss the benefits of this important year in your child’s education and to answer any questions you may have.

It has been another brilliant month at the Maple room. My friends were very excited to bring mom and dad to the classroom for date nights. It was so much fun to be able to show our parents our favorite lessons and do some together.
This month we continued our lessons on North America and made many special projects including colored corn, turkeys and dream catchers. We spent a lot of time this month thinking about what it means to be thankful and all the things we are thankful for. We had many interesting things to say as we passed our sharing stone around J.
We also discovered our love for cooking this month as we made our own thanksgiving meal of apple pie and corn bread. The children enjoyed using the apple peeler, cutting them up and using a mold the press in the filling. You all have wonderful helpers for this thanksgiving so involve them and enjoy!!
As for the coming month we only have three weeks left before Christmas break. We will be putting on our holiday cheer as we continue to engage in our “big work”. We will learn about all the upcoming holidays. In the Maple room we celebrate Christmas by bringing something from the class list for the whole class. We have a class wish list and all our friends are welcome to bring an item from it. We will then open them on the last day before break as a group.
I would like to say a special thank you to all our wonderful parent volunteers this month.
Hope you have a good, warm and safe holiday season.
Our Christmas class list:
1. dry erase pens (washable)
2. sharpies
3. color pencils (triangle ones)
4. regular color pencils
5. sparkle color pencils
6. feathers
7. sequence
8. pompom (multi colors)
9. markers (washable)
10. glue sticks
11. tape
12. cotton balls
13. yarn
14. matches
15. construction paper
16. tracing paper
17. felt
18. googly eyes
19. straws (drinking)
20. gift cards to: Michaels, Hobby Lobby, United Art and Education
Some notes:
1. If it is 32 degrees and above outside, we will go to play outdoors. Therefore please send your child with their winter coats/hats/gloves etc.
2. If you have not already done so please change out the clothes in their cubbies so they have a warm set of clothes to change into if the need arises.
3. Please check your child’s cubby (where they hang their coats) for their work to take home.

The Holiday season has officially begun! December is a very busy month at Center Grove Montessori. We will be celebrating several different cultures with observations of St. Nicholas Day, Hanukkah, and Christmas. It will be very festive!
Making shoes for St. Nicholas Day
We have begun our study of South America! We are excited to explore this continent with it’s varying climates, cultures and wildlife. If any of our families have artifacts from or knowledge of this region, please feel free to share!
Please note:
We will have a small celebration for Christmas in our classroom. In lieu of gifts for our staff, please just bring in an item from our wish Iist for your child to donate to the classroom. Make sure it is wrapped so one of the children can open it. Participation is optional.
A friendly reminder that our class time begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm. It is very important for the children to be here, at the latest, by 8:30 am so they do not miss our morning circle time. It is a time when we practice control, grace and courtesy, and often receive a group lesson.
Please have a safe and happy holiday season!

What a great week back from our fall break. The children seemed very happy to see their friends and get back to work! We have started our study of North America and are enjoying watching our friends explore items from the different countries in this continent. As cooler weather arrives, please remember to update your child’s change of clothing to season-appropriate wear. We try to go outside as long as it is 30 degrees or above, so please remember to include those mittens and hats for cooler days!
Our Halloween parade was a huge success! It was a bit drizzly, but the children didn’t mind. We really enjoyed seeing everyone in their costumes. Don’t forget about our parent nights this Thursday and the next! Our Mom’s night will be on Thurs., Nov. 6th, from 6:30-7:30 pm. Dad’s night will be the following Thurs., the 13th at the same time. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to show off their favorite jobs and show you around their classroom. We hope to see you there!

Welcome back! Hope all of you had a relaxing fall break and got a chance to enjoy the lovely weather. Our friends at the Maple room have come back with great enthusiasm to work, socialize and care for our community. We continue to learn about fall and have had the chance to express our selves through various artworks and explore different kinds of corn this week. We have also learnt some new songs!
We have had three birthdays this week!! 🙂 Aikya turned 5, Ryo turned 4 and Bella turned 4 years old!
We thank our parents for continuing to send in healthy snacks for our class. We are also doing our flower-arranging lesson. So if it is your snack day, we would be grateful if you can send in a bunch of flowers too. They don’t have to be a big bunch. They can even be from your garden (children love to bring things they have grown at home).
If you have not done so, please change out the clothes in your child’s cubby, as the days are getting colder.
In the coming month we will be celebrating Diwali (the festival of light) and continue to study the continent N. America.
It was wonderful to meet all our parents at the conferences before break. Again please feel free to contact us via email/ make an appointment with Brenda. We are here for you to work together.
It was wonderful to see everyone in costumes on Friday, despite inclement weather. Stay warm and happy trick or treating everyone!
Parent’s night is this Thursday and the next! Mom’s night will be on Thurs., Nov. 6th, from 6:30-7:30 pm. Dad’s night will be the following Thurs. the 13th at the same time. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to show off their favorite work and show you around their classroom. We hope to see you there!
