We all seemed to have been ready to come back and work after the Fall Break!
Halloween was enjoyed by everyone and most of the children were busy even with the costumes on.
We are beginning to explore the continent, South America. We will be learning about some flags of different Latin American countries, animals, food and people in the coming weeks.
We will also celebrate Diwali and Thanksgiving this month.
Thank you to all the parents that are sending in nutritious snack for our room. We have just found out that one child is allergic to dairy. So NO CHEESE, PLEASE!!
Please know that the children really love the fresh fruits and vegetables that are sent for snack. These also minimize the risk of allergies and are fun. There is no need to wash and cut. The children enjoy to get snack ready for everyone at school. So just as a reminder, no nuts and no dairy for snack.

We were happy to be back and ready to work this week after our Fall Break! The children were all eager to share what they did and where they travelled to during our time apart. We did a lot of celebrating this week with birthdays and Halloween. What a fun time with good friends!
This week we began our study of North America. There are several jobs out exposing the children to the different countries and cultures in our diverse continent. This coming week we will be celebrating Dia de los Muertos and learning about Mexico and the people that live there.
Happy Birthday to Brady and Laasya…they’re 5!

I hope everyone enjoyed their fall break! I don’t know about you, but to me it seems Fall decided that this would be the perfect time to appear and appear in full force! Please keep this in mind when your children get dressed. They will need to dress for the weather that will occur at 1:30pm each day. Also for running club, I recommend layers that can be taken off if necessary. Should they be dressed too hot or too cold I will have to ask them to stay back from running club. (ATTENTION- running club will break for this week in order to enjoy Halloween). Speaking of Halloween – we will be deciding as a class what to do this Monday during our class meeting time. Watch Compass for an update & more info. This weeks lunch team is a celebrity cook…..Ms. Kristen! She will be making Cuban Rice & Beans. Please send in $2 for this weeks lunch.
Don’t forget about homework Monday this week (grades 3-6)!! The children really enjoy getting to show their hard work to their friends. Watch for Novembers homework to come home this week!
Happy Fall!

Children in the Maple room have been very busy lately. Our classroom walls are getting filled with handmade items from our children. Many world maps have been completed. Many, many pink cube and brown stair mobiles are hanging from the ceiling and lots of painted things are adorning our walls!!!
We have been learning about the continent North America. We explored the map with countries, animals, famous places and souvenirs from North America. They have enjoyed making tortillas with masa.
Tasting a pomegranate and a star fruit together was quite interesting. Some of us did not like them, but were brave to taste them.
Please Note:
Starting when school resumes after the break, our rest time procedure will be a bit different. Miss Dana and Miss Darci will be putting together “nap packs” for each of our resting children. Each child will have a fleece pillow and blanket that will fit into a small bag that will remain at school. This is all part of our efforts to foster independence and responsibility by giving the children the opportunity to practice practical life skills such as laundry, folding and making up a “bed.” Children may bring a special item from home but it should be no larger than 10″ x 12″ and must fit into their “nap pack.” Please see picture below for a sample.
Halloween at CGM
If your child wishes, s/he may wear a costume to school on Thursday Oct 31st.When choosing a costume, please consider that some costumes may be frightening to other children. Masks and weapons are not welcome! Please make sure children have a change of clothes, as they may want to get out of the costume quickly. We will parade in the costumes and make a music band! If you would like to spend some time with a group of enthusiastic music lovers, please let Brenda know of your volunteering intentions. We can use some extra help for that day.
We are so fortunate to have a supportive group of parents. Thank you for taking the time to come and talk to us about your children at the parent teacher conferences. And to volunteer and contribute to make CGM the very special place for our children!

We have been having a great time in the Oak room! We baked biscuits, worked on stories and art projects and ended the week before break with a picnic in the field and a special afternoon snack! Your children are so flexible and ready to try new things. It is a true testament to their confidence and independence!
Thanks to all of the parents and grandparents that were able to meet with us for conferences. We really enjoy getting to know all of our families and bragging a bit about the progress of your children. We understand the busy schedules of our working families, so we truly appreciate the effort!
Please Note:
Starting when school resumes after the break, our nap time procedure will be changing. Miss Dana and Miss Darci will be putting together “nap packs” for each of our sleeping children. Each child will have a fleece pillow and blanket that will fit into a small bag that will remain at school. This is all part of our efforts to foster independence and responsibility by giving the children the opportunity to practice practical life skills such as laundry, folding and making up a “bed.” Children may bring a special item from home but it should be no larger than 10″ x 12″ and must fit into their “nap pack.” Please see picture below to see a sample.
A reminder:
Our school has a “no lunchables, please” policy. Based on recent dietary research, these lunch items have little nutritional value and are high in sodium and artificial ingredients. We have found that the children, while drawn to the “treat” and fun packaging, rarely eat them and often throw them away. Thank you for cooperation in this matter!
Have a great fall break and enjoy your time together!

“Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”
Maria Montessori
While perusing my notes and student recordkeeping to prepare for conferences, I became thoughtful of how much your children have accomplished in just a couple of months. As I watch the children in the Oak room I am continually amazed at how quickly they gain skills to be independent, confident and engaged.
I have compiled the following list based on my observations of our class:
Every child in the Oak room can put on their own shoes and socks.
Every child in the Oak room can carry breakable dishes with great care.
Every child in the Oak room can pour their own water and serve themselves snack.
Every child in the Oak room can use the bathroom without a teacher’s help.
Every child in the Oak room can make a mistake and clean it up or fix it.
Every child in the Oak room can sit in complete silence for at least 3 min.
Every child in the Oak room can be truly amazing!
We had three children with birthdays this week!
Lincoln is 5!
Emery is 6!
Anaya is 4!

We continue our weekly lunch but a student realized..Friday is better than Thursday for us! We normally go to the field and the library on Friday but due to scheduling and space conflicts..it makes more sense to do our lunch and Yoga on Friday and Field and library on Thursday. So here is our weekly and daily schedule.
Daily
8:15 class starts
8:20 or 8:30 am Morning meeting – this is also when a lesson and follow up might be included so if your child is late they will miss the lesson and announcement for the day – please be punctual.
9 or 9:30 am Work Cycle begins depending on meeting and follow up length
11:10 cafeteria co-managers begin lunch prep.
11:30 Lunch
12:30 Reading Time
1:00 pm Back to work or continue reading
1:45 Outside
2:30 pm Rocket Math & Green Folder
3:00 pm End of the Day jobs
3:16 pm After school Care
Weekly
Monday- Nothing unusual
Tuesday- PE. We go outside at 1:30- stretch, learn a new activity then onto our normal outside time or continue the activity
Wednesday – Art 9:30 am
Thursday – Library at 1:45 pm and Field at 2:15 pm for Kickball, etc..
Friday 2:00 pm Yoga- Jasper is here to visit!
I love that the students can change the schedule. So sorry about a bit of lunch confusion, for right now we are going with Friday. When winter comes it might change, or it might not!
This week we talked about some classroom issues, allergies and national day of peace. We transcribed peaceful quotes and were reminded that we have a duty to pass along what we know.
By the way that is how we work. We work in the positive, so let’s focus on the “what we want” as oppose to stop doing… in our lives…I am still practicing this..so instead of “don’t push me” I could say “next time you want to be ahead of me please ask..I might say okay or I might ask you to get behind me and wait nicely” If we can only try to see the peace within all people we might better understand those things that don’t seem so peaceful and be able to assist our friends in their struggles….
Parent Teacher conferences are ready! Did you schedule? For those in years 4-6 we are asking the students to lead these and us to follow up! Bring your child, we will help them to be ready..the 1-3 students are welcome to input as well! Childcare will be available.
Hope you are all feeling informed and up to date! If you aren’t please let me know how I can help! Have a great week!
Watch for the first field day trip update soon! The children have chosen the Apple Orchard and we are waiting for confirmation from the orchard.

What a busy, busy week we have had! We wrapped up our study of apples and are officially moving on to learning all we can about those wonderful trees! The older children took a walk and selected a beautiful Tulip tree for their tree study. We will record pictures and facts about this lovely tree as the seasons change.
Our children have been working hard to get our classroom clean and neat for any guests that stop by during the open house on Sunday. Please feel free to bring friends and family by for a visit between 2-4 pm.
We celebrated Teeno’s birthday this week. He turned 4!
We have been having a lot of discussion in our classroom about what it means to be a good friend and how everyone should be included in group play and work. Using kind words and being patient and understanding of others’ differences are something we practice on a daily basis. Reinforcement at home is always appreciated. You are the most important people in your child’s life, so gentle discussions and storybooks regarding this theme are an excellent learning opportunity for them.
Please Note:
Thank you to all of the parents who attended the Language in the Montessori classroom walk thru. It is always fulfilling for us teachers to share our knowledge of and experience with the success of this learning method. We are quite passionate about it and are always happy to enlighten others to the unlimited potential of the child.
Hopefully you have noticed the sign up sheets for conferences located at the front desk. We think it is very important to maintain communication between parents and teachers to insure the success of your child in the classroom and to get to know one another. Thanks to those that have already signed up!
