Ready to deliver May Day flower cones to our neighbors.
It’s hard to believe our school year has almost come to an end! We have made wonderful memories here at Center Grove Montessori with all of our families and friends! We are looking forward to a fun final month of beautiful weather and interesting activities.
Thank you to all of our families who attended the art show and auction in April. The children were so proud to show their work and the auction was a huge success! We raised nearly $1400 dollars! We truly appreciate your support!
We will be celebrating summer birthdays soon. If your child has a birthday that falls during our summer break, they are welcome to bring in their favorite topping for our ice cream party! So that all of our friends can enjoy this sweet treat, we will be scheduling this special day for Wednesday, May 13th, during our afternoon outside time.
If weather permits, we are planning “water fun” day for the last day of school. Please have your child bring their bathing suits and a towel so they can participate in this refreshing activity. We will be setting up a sprinkler and wading pool and there may be a water balloon toss as well!
This is a bittersweet time of year for us teachers as we reflect on how much the children in our care have grown. Some of our friends will be moving on to different places and new adventures. We will miss them, but are proud of the vibrant and caring individuals they have become. Good luck to all and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing summer. To our returning friends, we’ll see you next year!

What’s Happening in the Oak Room
April Showers….
We are ready for Spring! Hopefully everyone had a restful break and will return to school healthy and ready to experience the change of seasons!
April is a busy month in the Oak Room. We will be exploring all of the changes occurring outdoors, learning about the water cycle and watching the busy birds that return to our trees every year.
It is conference time at Center Grove Montessori! Please note that there will be sign up sheets available at the front desk so that you may choose a time most convenient to you. Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet with us so we can discuss your child’s progress and accomplishments. Conferences will be held before and after school during the week of April 13-17.
Also in April we will be having our Art show and auction on Saturday, the 25th, from 1-4 pm. We will have samples of the children’s artwork displayed throughout the classrooms. There will be various items and artwork available for bidding during the silent auction.
Don’t forget to donate! We will be collecting new and gently used items for the MCR Community Sale on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout April. You can just drop off your donation at the school and we will take care of the rest!

Gung Hay Fat Choy! We had a great time celebrating Chinese New Year!
The Oak room children continue to amaze as we wrap up another month of hard work and fun with friends! The children have all been very busy and industrious. We are seeing a lot of interesting projects and a lot of writing!
While we are still having fun learning all about Asia, we will also be introducing interesting items from and information about Europe! There are many similarities to our own culture here in America, so there will be ample opportunities to compare and contrast!
It’s been so cold outside and the children are ready for some fresh air! We are hoping for warmer temperatures this week, but our playground will still be quite snowy and muddy. If your child could please bring snow boots and gloves, that would be helpful. We don’t want anyone to miss out on playing outdoors!
Please think of joining the recently formed Montessori Community Resource Group in supporting our local Montessori schools by donating new and gently used items for their Community Sale in April. While you are spring cleaning over the break, please set aside items you no longer use or need for donation.
We welcome anyone interested to get involved with this parent/teacher/school director organization by attending our next meeting on March 11th at 3:30 pm. Meetings are held at our sister school, Indiana Montessori Community School, in Whiteland.

What’s Happening in the Oak Room?
January was such a busy month full of work, play and new experiences. We are looking forward to a productive and fun February!
During this upcoming month we will be discovering all that the great continent of Asia has to offer! The children will be tasting food, playing games and celebrating customs from this region of the world. Chinese New Year is February 19th. It is the year of the goat!
We are seeing a lot of muddy pants and socks in our classroom. Some of our students are missing a change of clothing. We are requesting that all of our parents please check your child’s cubbie to make sure that they have a clean outfit available.
Valentine’s Day will be here soon. We are planning a small celebration for this holiday on Wednesday, February 11th. If your child would like to bring in Valentines, we have 19 students in the Oak Room. For ease of distribution, please just have your child sign their own name on the cards. We are in need of shoe boxes for the children to decorate, so if any of our families have some to donate, thank you and please send them in by Monday, February 9th.
Thinking about whether to keep your child in their Montessori classroom for their Kindergarten year? We will be having a parent information night on February 10th at 6:30 pm to discuss the benefits of this important year in your child’s education and to answer any questions you may have.

The Holiday season has officially begun! December is a very busy month at Center Grove Montessori. We will be celebrating several different cultures with observations of St. Nicholas Day, Hanukkah, and Christmas. It will be very festive!
Making shoes for St. Nicholas Day
We have begun our study of South America! We are excited to explore this continent with it’s varying climates, cultures and wildlife. If any of our families have artifacts from or knowledge of this region, please feel free to share!
Please note:
We will have a small celebration for Christmas in our classroom. In lieu of gifts for our staff, please just bring in an item from our wish Iist for your child to donate to the classroom. Make sure it is wrapped so one of the children can open it. Participation is optional.
A friendly reminder that our class time begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm. It is very important for the children to be here, at the latest, by 8:30 am so they do not miss our morning circle time. It is a time when we practice control, grace and courtesy, and often receive a group lesson.
Please have a safe and happy holiday season!

What a great week back from our fall break. The children seemed very happy to see their friends and get back to work! We have started our study of North America and are enjoying watching our friends explore items from the different countries in this continent. As cooler weather arrives, please remember to update your child’s change of clothing to season-appropriate wear. We try to go outside as long as it is 30 degrees or above, so please remember to include those mittens and hats for cooler days!
Our Halloween parade was a huge success! It was a bit drizzly, but the children didn’t mind. We really enjoyed seeing everyone in their costumes. Don’t forget about our parent nights this Thursday and the next! Our Mom’s night will be on Thurs., Nov. 6th, from 6:30-7:30 pm. Dad’s night will be the following Thurs., the 13th at the same time. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to show off their favorite jobs and show you around their classroom. We hope to see you there!

Autumn has arrived! We have been enjoying the beautiful and unseasonably warm
weather with explorations outdoors. The leaves are changing, so the children have
taken notice of all of the trees around us and the different types of leaves falling to
the ground. We’ve been collecting and studying these botanical beauties all this
week!
As cooler weather arrives, please remember to update your child’s change of
clothing to season-appropriate wear.
This class loves their continents! Our puzzle maps are out daily and the children are
coming up with very creative projects with them. We will soon begin our studies of
North America. If any of our families have artifacts from our continent they would
like to share, please feel free to bring them in.
Parent teacher conferences begin this coming week. We really enjoy this time to get
to speak uninterrupted with our parents and share their child’s accomplishments
and growth!
Halloween is approaching and the children are asking a lot of questions about
costumes. We will be having our Halloween parade again this year. The children
may arrive at school already dressed in their costumes (no pretend weapons please)
and we will join the other classes in a parade around our neighborhood. Children
who do not attend on Friday may join us for the parade at 9:30 am, but parents must
stay to take them home after. The children really enjoy this, so we are hoping
everyone can participate!

Meet a few of our new friends!
Lily, Parker and Drew!
What a wonderful start to a new school year! It seems we are all settled into our
classroom. The children have adjusted so well to our school and classroom
procedures. They become more independent and comfortable each day and are
taking such good care of their “Children’s House.”
When Maria Montessori first started implementing her method, she referred to her
classrooms as “Children’s Houses” because they are designed and cared for as a
space that belongs to the children and fills only their needs, not those of adults. It
was demonstrated over and over that taking ownership of this special space and its
care is very important for the young child, fostering independence and an
appreciation for the beauty of individual items and their overall environment.
We have spent a lot of time getting to know one another and reconnecting with old
friends. Our peace education has been focused on how to respect others in our
environment and how to be aware of our friends’ thoughts and feelings.
Our science and geography lessons focused on air, land and water as well as a
study of different land forms. Our students have also shown a particular interest in
the seven continents. You may ask your child to sing the “continent” song or look at
some maps together and talk about these different areas of our world.
Thank you to our older returning students for helping our new and younger friends
while they get used to their new classroom!
Please Note:
Picture day is this Wednesday, September 10th. We will be taking individual, sibling
and class pictures. If your child is wearing a “special” outfit for pictures, please
bring along some “school” clothes for them to change into after.
Hopefully you have received our email regarding a walk thru evening focusing on
“Cosmic Education.” What does it mean? How does it affect your child’s classroom?
All questions will be answered on how this aspect of our curriculum sets the
Montessori method apart from other education philosophies and practices. The walk
thru is scheduled for Monday, September 22nd at 6:30 pm.

We have been very busy in the Oak Room getting ready for the international fair. Our classroom will be hosting North America and South America, so grab a passport at the door and visit the displays, taste some regional foods and check out some interesting cultural artifacts! Every classroom in the school will be featuring the various continents of the world. The fair will take place on Sunday, April 27th, from 1-4 pm. All of the CGM children have been working hard on their silent auction projects, so don’t forget to put in a bid for some of these one-of-a-kind pieces.
We have really been enjoying the beautiful weather we are having with a lot of time working and playing outside. With the warmer temperatures and more time in the sun, we will apply (afternoon) sunblock to children who bring it from home. We ask that sunblock brought to school is is spray form for sanitary reasons.
Summer birthdays: We will celebrate summer birthdays with ice cream sundaes during the last week of school. If they choose to, any children who have a birthday during the summer break may bring in a favorite topping for ice cream that we will be providing.
Have a wonderful weekend and we hope to see you on Sunday!
Thank you to all of our volunteers for their assistance with the international fair and silent auction. We appreciate your time and support!

February is Dental Health Month. We used this opportunity to discover interesting facts about our teeth and how they grow, what can damage them and, most importantly, how to care for them. A special thank you to Dr. Goedecker, who donated tooth brushes and toothpaste for all of the kids. They were all so pleased to learn that Brady’s dad is a dentist!
We have been enjoying learning more about the weather and performed some experiments about thunder, lightening and rainbows this week. The children seem particularly interested in this topic right now. Several of our friends like to check the temperature throughout the day.
Welcome to our new friend Prajeeth! We are enjoying getting to know him!
With all of the recent precipitation we are ending up with a lot of wet socks and pants after outside time. Please take a moment to check your child’s spare clothing to make sure they have a spare pair of socks and pants. Thanks!
Please note that we will be having an open house at CGM from 2-4 pm on Saturday, March 1st. There will also be an open house on the same day at IMCS in Whiteland from 1-5 pm. Please tell your friends and co-workers about our wonderful schools and encourage them to attend!
Child quote of the week:
Arhan: “This beautiful orchestra music makes my eyes water.”
Have a great weekend, Miss Holly.
